PE & Sports
Physical Education is an important part of the curriculum in developing personal co-ordination and dexterity, building fitness and awareness of healthy lifestyles and promoting key values such as discipline, respect and inclusion.
Our curriculum will:
- inspire children to learn about themselves and their place in the global community
- aspire to be challenging, relevant and meaningful
- achieve the best outcome for every child
Intent: At Westbury Leigh we aim to develop and support every child in their physical education by building on their prior knowledge and experience, inspiring their learning through physical activities that link to their locality and world, to enable them to be aspirational in trying new physical activities and seeing this as a way of life for the future - and their own responsibility in maintaining and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Implementation: We will ensure all staff understand the context for the learning and the disciplines within physical education so that learning takes place in a meaningful context and ensuring it is revisited frequently so all children, no matter their starting point or background, make consistently good progress. We follow Real PE and offer a broad range of sporting disciplines with a strong and healthy focus on positive attitudes to sport. All children are expected to be able to swim 25m by the time they leave primary school.
Impact: We will regularly review and evaluate the learning that is taking place through a clear understanding of age-related expectations and what this looks like first hand, through learning outcomes; we will seek to ensure there is rich knowledge that enables generalisations and makes connections. Our vision is to enable children not to want more but to be more.
RRS Article 29 - Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
All children must wear a suitable PE kit.
When children take part in PE lessons they must wear appropriate PE kit for safety. This is:
- White t-shirt
- Black or grey shorts
- Black daps or trainers (if they can tie laces)
- One piece swimsuit or swimming trunks above the knee (not baggy)
PE Kit should be stored in a drawstring bag. We expect children to have their PE kit in school every day.
All items of uniform, PE Kit, school bags and other personal belongings must be clearly labelled with the child’s name.
