Westbury Leigh Reflection and Prayer
Prayer plays an important part in our school life. There are opportunities to pray throughout the day as part of collective worship, at reflection spaces in classrooms, in the school entrance and before lunch when the school says "Grace".
Children are encouraged to read prayers others have written and to write their own. There are no rules to writing prayers, but they often include giving thanks to God or asking to be forgiven or asking for help.
There is a daily reflection at the end of the school day which takes the value in focus and then explores this by reflecting on what it means to us, means to others and the impact this can have in transforming lives.
Our Ethos Council is made up of children chosen from across the school who work with the Worship Leader to review the impact of worship and support the school in continuing to improve its work in this area. They composed our school prayer:
Rights Respecting School
We are also a rights respecting school, this means we are committed to the Rights Respecting School Award which is an initiative run by UNICEF UK. It encourages schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its ethos and curriculum. This forms an important part of our reflection time in school.
